The cars.
Did I mention the cars? This was one of the most important factors in this trip I think. We brought the right cars. Not a single duffer amongst them and some cars certainly surprised me. I was surprised by the performance of the Ferraris. The California T was one Ferrari I was always lukewarm about, but having witnessed its performance at close quarters I am now a fan. No other car can match its unique blend of practicality, grand touring ability, performance and wow factor. It is a convertible that can go toe-to-toe in a straight line with a hard-core street racer like the GT3. Only on track does the GT3 lose it. Talking about the GT3, after driving it 1,200 miles at high speed, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is arguably, pound-for-pound, the best SuperSports car ever made.
In many ways, the star of the show was the mighty Mercedes G63 AMG. This is simply a monstrous car. Cartoonish even. A car weighing over 2.5 tons should not be capable of such stonking performance. It is simply ludicrous and beggars belief. Just check out the specifications of the cars below.
Ferrari California T (x2): Engine V8, 3855cc, twin-turbocharged. Max power 553bhp @ 7500rpm. 0-60 3.6sec (claimed 0-62mph). Top speed 196mph (claimed).
911 (991.1) GT3: Engine 3799cc flat-six, direct injection. Max power 475bhp @ 8250rpm. 0-60 3.5sec (claimed 0-62mph). Top speed 196mph.
911 (991.2)  Carrera Cabriolet: Engine 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, Max power 370bhp @ 6,500rpm. 0 – 62 mph 4.8 secs. Top speed 182mph.
Mercedes G63 AMG: Engine 5461cc twin-turbo V8, Max power 537bhp, 0-60 5.4secs, Top speed 130mph (limited).
Mercedes E-400: Engine: 2996cc 24v V6, twin-turbo, Max power 329bhp @ 5500rpm, Performance: 0-62mph 5.2sec, Top speed 155mph.
Porsche Panamera Diesel: Engine: 2967cc V6 24v turbodiesel, Max power 296bhp @ 4000rpm, Performance: 6.0sec 0-62mph, Top speed 160mph.

Lovely piece. You need to start writing books. You bring your write ups to life. I felt like I was there with you guys. Nice one Akin!!
thanks!
Nicely written.
Thanks Bro
Kinzo, (or should I say Red One) really good writing, you captured the spirit and the feel of those 3 days so accurately. Reading it makes me feel like I was back there again. Well done dude!
Lol @ ‘Red 1’. thanks Boss. You guys made it such a memorable trip.
Another masterpiece bro , those speeds are scary . Kudos to you all .
Thanks Elly
Explain to me how a Porsche GT3 came to run of petrol .. you thought I will not hold on to that ? ?? Glad to read how much fun your road trip was and you all came back safe. It’s these moments away ” from the madddning crowd” that give some sanity. The writing drew me in and made me almost feel like I was there. ??
‘Bella. I collected the car from Porsche after some wheel balancing work with NO fuel in the tank. This was no problem as the dealership was only 4 miles from home. I then stopped at the fuel station to buy the particular brand of fuel I use, to find out I had lost my cards…so thought I’d drive back home and pick up another payment card…that’s when I ran out of fuel…sigh
Awesome write up my friend. Really wish I was there ????
Lol…you can be at the next one..just keep that weekend free! You have enough notice
Time to start your own Gumball 3000 or was this it
hehehehehehe…Good point. A film maker friend has volunteered to make a documentary of the next trip…should be epic
That was a nice read Akin, felt like I was watching a movie, an attribute of a good storyteller. Will definitely be part of next year crew.
1 life, live it to the fullest.
De Laski!!!!! Thanks Boss. You must be there next year
Another brilliant write up Akin, well done and great fun, reminds me of the Le Mans trip I did in 2009 with Stratstone motors ?? might do 2018 trip.
Thanks..never done Le Mans. Hmmmn
Great article. Great trip. Great GP! I remember getting up to 175mph in a Murciélago on my way to Essen in 2005. I chickened out as i approached 2 trailers on a slight curve on the motorway! It was simultaneously the most exhilarating and frightening thing i have ever done.
I will come on one of these trips sometime; and i plan to disrupt the European hegemony. I’ll be bringing a Nissan GTR.
Thanks Kenny! You’d be most welcome! The more enthusiasts, the better, especially GTR driving ones!
Quick-paced and well written article, about one hell of a blistering weekend. Kudos Pilot!
Looking forward to the 2018 version.
It was fabulous! Thanks!
Beautifully written , but you could not resist the temptation to speed forcing your friends to keep up,???
5 speeding tickets for you ??. I agree with Adj , you should write books .
lol. Actually I was the one keeping some of them in check! Thank you. You are too kind.

Hi Akin. Amazing trip you guys had. I have something to ask of you. I have a quarterly issue magazine under development titled Manifesto Africa – lifestyle and luxury for the African Man. I would love to reproduce your experience in the first edition to come out in October. What say you?
Please I won’t mind reading your maiden edition, how do I get on board? I am African and like luxury ?
heheheheh…we know you like Luxury Remi!
Hey Babatunde…I say : “interesting. Tell me more.?”
“The harder I pushed the car, the more alive the car seemed to be, absolutely wired to your senses, man and machine as one”—-Loved this!
Captivating writing! Not a speed bot by any means but I thoroughly enjoyed readibg your account of a thrilling weekend! Mesnerised by every word, you paint a wobderful pucture! All the best for next year!
You are far too kind Tosin! Thank you.
