Car meets are back! After what seems like an eternity, Boris has eased the Covid-19 restrictions and car meets are now allowed. The first car meet of 2021 we will be able to attend will be Porsche Club GB, London (R20) Region’s ‘Out East’. A monthly meet held every 3rd Sunday of the month in the graffiti streets of Fish Island, East London.
To celebrate the return of this event, here are some pictures in two galleries from two events in 2020.

October 2020

I’d just arrived from a 2,000-mile road trip through four European countries, you can read about that trip here, but it was strangely good to be back in the graffiti streets of Fish Island, East London. it was also good to see familiar faces and familiar cars. I find cars easier to recognise than people, so when someone I do not recognise says ‘hi’, I always ask “which Porsche is yours?’
Instant recognition usually follows. I know most Porsches in London and I would have taken a picture of most of them at least once.

The morning usually ends with breakfast at Stour Space. There is nothing like ogling Porsches all morning, yakking with their owners and then having a hearty breakfast in the area floating on the canal. Sadly, the cafe is temporarily closed

“Fish Island is the name given to an area in east London, England in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It encompasses one of 58 designated conservation areas in Tower Hamlets, with many of its buildings considered important to Britain’s industrial heritage, though there are no listed buildings in the area.”

I’m not sure whose idea it was to hold a Porsche meet in Fish Island, but I do think it was an inspired choice. It gives the meet a character and an edge that is very unique. Its graffiti streets also lend a colourful backdrop for the awesome machines which gather every 3rd Sunday of the month when Covid-19 allows.
Please check covid restrictions before heading down. See you there!
