July’s Breakfast Car Meet by Surrey Car Meets took place in the Cobham Services at junction 9/10 of the M25 motorway in Surrey. The event was advertised as a meet for supercars, high performance, and classic cars.

They were absolutely right. Examples of almost every significant model from every significant manufacturer was present. There were Italian supercars from Maranello (Ferrari) and Sant’Agata (Lamborghini). The British was represented by Mclaren, Bentley, Ariel, and Lotus. The Germans were represented by Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi.

An estimated 800 cars turned up. One high estimate puts the number of cars at 1000. These numbers are entirely believable.

They should have included hypercars in the description as a mighty Mclaren Senna also turned up. If you did not know, the Mclaren Senna is a member of the automotive royal family along with cars such as the Ferrari F40, the Porsche 959, and the Mclaren F1.

The Surrey Police force was also conspicuously present, making sure that adrenaline and ‘male exuberance’ did not get the better of some of the drivers present. Alas, even their presence did not deter some, and a handful was rightfully fined for revving their engines unnecessarily.

I’ve never understood why some feel the need to rev their engines loudly while crawling at 5 miles an hour.

Sadly, due to COVID-19 concerns, this month’s scheduled event has been cancelled. It was cancelled after consultation with Surrey Police and Extra services. A regrettable course of action but an entirely reasonable and understandable one. This is what actually prompted me to publish 100 pictures in two galleries from July’s event.

Hopefully, this event will take place in the near future.
