Look at it!

My son’s first reaction on seeing the car for the first time was: “WHOA!” A GT3!

They say an apple never falls far from the tree and my son clearly also has petrol in his veins. The way he made a beeline to a white GT3 at JZM Porsche was proof of this. He insisted on sitting in the car and kept saying ‘wow’ as he clocked the features of the car, especially the enormous  rear wing.

That Wing

When I asked him whether he preferred it to the car  in which we drove there, a white convertible 911 C2S, he responded loudly and clearly and much to my embarrassment: “Of Course”. The salesman and some other prospective clients fell about laughing.

“You gotta buy it now!” was the general consensus. Sigh.

He loves the car so much (as do I) that I have promised that he will get the car. I will never, ever, sell it.

And this is a good thing I think. The values of all ‘GT’ cars, ‘GT3’s and GT3 RS’s have skyrocketed in the past few years. Every single low mileage 991 GT3 costs a minimum of 25k more than new! The 991.2 GT3 will cost about 60k more than new when the first used ones hit the market. One dealer demanded 190k to supply me one. Every single GT3 RS costs more than 90k(!!!!) more than its list price. Yikes. I saw a 2007 GT3 for 110k! thats a ten year-old car. The hallowed ‘R’ and ‘4.0 RS’ models are north of 500k and you cannot buy them new anymore. Forget it. These are truly special limited edition cars and are frankly worth every penny.

I now understand the hype around them.

Even Richard Hammond, previously of Top Gear said: “The Porsche 911 GT3 is so good I just had to buy one myself”

This car (and its variants) has the best concentration of the values and characteristics we petrol-heads look for in a car. You do not even have to like the car to be blown away by its qualities as Jeremy Clarkson, a famous 911 hater, was when he drove one. He once said during a review of the 2010 version: “I have always despised the car (911)”.

He ended that same review with these words:”I want a GT3″.

I think that says it all.
