Ham Polo Club.

The venue for the event, the Ham Polo club, with polo grounds in Richmond West London is the last remaining Polo club in London and is over 90 years old. It is a club I have visited many times before for various polo events, one notable event being  Fifth Chukker’s yearly Polo event which was held here in the not-too-distant past. I duly arrived at the Ham Polo club just before midday on the Saturday and went to to the media desk as instructed, to pick up my pass.

Media accreditation done, I could now focus on the event and the guests as they arrived and I was glad I did! Most of them had clearly made an effort and many, male and female, were easily in the running for the ‘Best Dressed’ award. I do not know how the judges were going to choose the winner of this particular award as I found it impossible to pick just one winner. Honestly, the pictures do not do the guests justice at all.

The guests were a diverse bunch and there were quite a few guests worthy of special mention.

Damson Idris – British television, theatre and film actor. He currently stars on John Singleton’s crime drama Snowfall.

Kanya King MBE – CEO and Founder of the MOBO Organisation

China Moses – American singer and television host. She released her fist single at 18.

Dawn Petula Butler – Labour MP for Brent Central. (Did her boss,  Jeremy Corbyn know she was here?)

Amanda Foster – first British black woman to be hired as a stunt double. She was Halle Berry’s body double in the 2002 James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’. I met her briefly and wished I could have spent more time talking to her….she would undoubtedly have some interesting tales I’m sure!

Chidera Eggerue  – Award-winning Blogger & Author of ‘What A Time To Be Alone’. The ‘SlumFlower’.

Mariah Idrissi – British model and the first Muslim hijab-wearing model.

David Ajala – British actor and producer. Starred in the sci-fi film ‘Jupiter Ascending’  (2015), ‘Fast and Furious 6’ (2013) and ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008). A real hollywood hitter.

Aston Martin, the luxury British sports car manufacturer was also a prominent presence at the event. They brought along their newest models and were offering test drives to the revellers. They even brought the newest Aston Martin, the stunning Vantage. Sadly, I did not get to take it for a test drive. This was the only disappointment of the day.
